Hartfield

Note:  This map only shows the position of Hartfield village within the U.K.

HARTFIELD: Military airstrip

Military user: RAF  (Royal Air Force)

 658 Sqdn   (Austers)

Location: Roughly 3.5nm NW of Crowborough, 5.5nm ESE of East Grinstead, 7nm WSW of Royal Tunbridge Wells

Period of operation:  April 1944 to June 1944

NOTES:  With D-Day on the 6th June 1944 it would appear fairly obvious that these Austers were probably employed on 'fetch and carry' operations? But to whom, where and why?

If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be much appreciated.
