HAY-on-WYE: Temporary aerodrome?
NOTES: On the 8th September 1933 Sir Alan Cobham’s No.1Tour displayed in/near Hay-on-Wye.
Today this town is renowned for being a centre of excellence for selling books, especially old and second hand books, so presumably some record exists within all these books in so many shops of exactly where this display was held?
The town is situated on the junction of three Counties, BRECKNOCK, HEREFORDSHIRE and RADNORSHIRE. So, the actual site used might have been in any of these.
In the AAIB report EW/G2014/09/02 a mention is made of an airstrip near Hay-on-Wye with a grass runway orientated 06/24 and 750x30. This said I have a suspicion it could be a reference to HARDWICKE airstrip situated east of Hay-on-Wye in Herefordshire.
