HAYWARDS HEATH: Private helipad
NOTES: In the mid 1970s private helipads were fairly rare and at this one it seems the Enstrom type ruled with the Enstrom F.28As G-BATU of W E Taylor & Son Ltd and G-BCEV of Maxwelton House Property Group being based here….does anybody now know where this helipad was?
HAYWARDS HEATH: Private airstrip
Note: Both of these pictures were obtained from Google Earth ©
Location: About 2nm E of Haywards Heath
Period of operation: 1990s to early 2000s?
NOTES: This is purely conjecture on my part, but in searching around on Google Earth for evidence of this airstrip I came across this. Without any doubt after some twenty plus years of trying to identify private airstrips, a 770 metre dead straight line across a large field, is most unusual. Also, it is 2nm E of Haywards Heath town centre. In this case 2nm NE, but many accounts do not make this kind of distinction.
Plus of course, being orientated 11/29 and 770 metres long, (and next to a golf course), it would be suitable for use by many if not most GA aircraft, including many twin engine types.
If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be much appreciated.
Dan

I'm sorry to say, that as ideal as it looks as an airstrip on Google Earth, I do not believe that it was ever used for such a purpose. I recall tall wheat and other crops growing here, and when harvested it left a flat but muddy field. In addition, my grandparents knew I was an aviation enthusiast (they always took me to Gatwick for a day out when I stayed!), but they never mentioned any aircraft movements here. Perhaps it has been confused with Danehill private strip 3.5km NW?
