A Guide to the history of British flying sites within the United Kingdom

Hendry

Note: This map only shows the position of Clawdd-newydd within the UK. This 'Guide' does not set out to provide exact locations for private airstrips, but simply to record their existence. But of course, and needless to say, if anybody can be kind enough to provide a more exact location, this advice will be most welcome.

HENDRE: Private airstrip

Operated by: Mr Paul Parry

Location: Near Ruthin

Runway: 250m grass

NOTES: In 2013 it appears the Team Mini-Max G-CGGX was being flown from here. The reference was found on page 17 of Light Aviation magazine, October 2013. It also states that the flying field is less than a quarter of mile from their home (Mr & Mrs Parry) which, after doing a search on G-INFO I discovered is in Clawdd-newydd on the B5105 roughly 4nm SSW of Ruthin.

A search on Google Earth does not show an obvious mown runway in this area so it is probably more of a suitable field rather than a prepared strip? For several decades many aircraft owners, especially those flying microlights, have been regularly using unprepared fields, reflecting common practice prior to WW2.
