NOTES: If producing a 'Guide' to flying sites in the UK - where do you draw the line? It cannot be done of course, but I think a certain sense of fun must be introduced, even though in this case it was obviously regarding a very serious Air Ambulance rescue scenario.

This entry is also included to pay tribute to the crews that man our Air Ambulance services throughout the UK. Invariably supported by charitable donations. And therefore as a society, I feel that we should all be somewhat ashamed. But, I suppose, this is how we British do tend to get by. No government support, so lets do it ourselves. What an awful state of affairs in the greater scheme of things.

Lets face it, we hear our politicians banging on about the UK economy being one of the largest in the world. We can afford the Trident missile programme; have procured 160 Eurofighter Typhoons for the RAF at a cost of €90 million each,  (basically an aircraft desperately in search of an enemy), but we British cannot afford a handful of Air Ambulance helicopters for basic humitarian duties.

This said, it appears that, as a way of getting around this to some extent, in some Counties these helicopters have joint roles - Air Ambulance and Police. Therefore partially subsidised from government funds? But hardly an ideal situation, as, if a really major incident or accident occurs, you really do need two helicopters - each devoted to its specific task.
