Operated by:  Aerial Farm Services Ltd

Location:  Just SSW of Biggleswade town centre

Period of operation:  Commercially - 1959 to 1965        Privately - 1965 to 2004

Note: Was the same location used for private use?

NOTES:  We have Mr Graham Frost, a great friend of this 'Guide' to thank for much of this initial information.

It appears that Aerial Farm Services operated four aircraft. Three de Havilland DH82A Tiger Moths and a Stearman. The Tiger Moths were G-APPN, (ex T7328), registered from 17.11.59 to 12.06.64. The second example being G-ANNI, (ex T6953), registered from 22.01.60 to 05.07.63 before being PWFU, (Permanently Withdrawn From Use). The third example was G-APIG which appears to have no previous military history? This being registered from 24.05.61 until March 1964.

For me the really notable aeroplane is the Boeing A75N1 Stearman G-AROY. I suspect very few Stearmans were operating commercially, let alone privately, in the U.K. during the early 1960s? This example was registered to Aerial Farm Services from 06.06.61 to 23.11.65. Then transferred to Mr William A Jordan, with the same address, from 26.11.65 until 27.10.2004.

What we do not know is exactly where, near Biggleswade, Aerial Farm Services operated from. If anybody can kindly offer advice and information, this will be much appreciated.

The first picture above is pretty much my guesswork. Suitable for the Stearman to be operated from? No sign I can see of a hangar though. But, if correct, the two 'runways' were:   07/25   260  grass        11/29   300   grass
