Hoprig Mains

Note: This map shows the position of Hoprig Mains Farm in recent years. So presumably this airfield must have been in this area?

HOPRIG MAINS: Military Landing Ground   (Aka TRANENT)

Military user: RFC  (Royal Flying Corps)

77 [Home Defence] Sqdn    (Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2s and possibly B.E.12s?)

Location: Just NW of the modern A1/B6363 junction. Roughly 12nm E of Edinburgh city centre

Period of operation: 1916 to 1917

NOTES: Used only as a Night Landing Ground it seems. This operation was it seems, then transferred to PENSTON in 1917.
