Huntingdon flying sites

Note: Regarding this map, I am of of course assuming that the Huntingdon racecourse is in the same position as it was in 1912?

HUNTINGDON see also  PORTHOLME

HUNTINGDON RACECOURSE: Early flying site    (see also PORTHOLME & PORTHOLME MEADOW)

Operated by: John R Duigan

Period of operation: March 1912 only?

NOTES: It appears that Mr Duigan operated an AVRO design here, (similar to the ‘D’ model, but a tractor 2-seater), initially obtaining short hops. Equipped with a better engine he did succeed in flying but after only four hours in the air he sold the airframe and returned to Australia with the engine. His airframe went to the Lakes Flying Company on Lake Windermere.
