HUNTON: Military Landing Ground     (Aka, HATCH GATE &  MAIDSTONE)

I have the Airfields of Britain Conservation Trust web-site to thank for locating this site. 






 

Military users: RFC  (Royal Flying Corps) 
Also RNAS (Royal Naval Air Service) and RAF (Royal Air Force)

WW1:  50 [Home Defence] Sqdn  (Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2 & B.E.12 types, Bristol M.1, Vickers E.S.1. Later Sopwith Pups & Camels)

Note:  I have no idea which of these types used HUNTON. Advice will be most welcome.

 

Location: W of Hunton village, E of the B2162, about 4nm SSW of Maidstone town centre

Period of operation:  1914 to 1940s

 

NOTES: Used as a Day and Night Landing Ground.
