A MICHAEL T HOLDER GALLERY
We have Mike Holder, a great friend of this 'Guide', to thank for both finding evidence of this location and illustrating it.
Note: The photo of Rhodes-Moorhouse competing in the Aerial Derby at HENDON on the 5th June 1912 was published in The Aeroplane on the 13th June 1912. He is flying the Radley & Moorhouse single seat monoplane, based on a Blériot type, which he was heavily involved in designing and having built as a single seat racer. In those days of course, it was a continous process of learning and making modifications, sometimes often on an almost daily basis. All depending on how long it took to make the modification.
Note: The magazine article was published in The Aeroplane on the 6th June 1912. The local area view is from my Google Earth © derived database.
NOTES: It appears that Mr Rhodes-Moorhouse had flown up from BROOKLANDS in SURREY the day before to stay at the family home at SPRATTON GRANGE. (See seperate listing). After making his display, he then flew to Huntingdon in the evening.
It is certainly worth mentioning that after he had enrolled in the Royal Flying Corps at the start of WW1, he was the first British airman to be awarded the Victoria Cross. I have added a brief account in the SPRATTON GRANGE listing, but can highly recommend reading For Valour - The Air VCs - by Chaz Bowyer.
