King Power Stadium

KING POWER STADIUM:   Helicopter landing area

Note: This picture (2018) was obtained from Google Earth ©

Location: About 1nm S to SSW of Leicester city centre

Period of operation:  From 2002(?) to -

Landing area:  Centre of the pitch

NOTES:  This helicopter landing site came to the attention of the public when, on the 27th October 2018 the Agusta AW169 G-VSKP landed here to collect some VIPs for a flight to STANSTED. Shortly after lifting off a major mechanical malfunction occurred resulting in the pilot losing control. In the resulting fatal crash the pilot and his four passengers perished.

Although helicopter safety is much better today, and a popular mode of transport for the wealthy, the fact remains that the safety record is pretty dismal.

If anybody can kindly offer advice as to how many helicopter visits were made into the stadium, which opened in 2002, this will be much appreciated. It should be noted that this helicopter initially landed in the nearby training ground. So perhaps this site has also been used on several occassions.
