Kingsnorth flying sites in Kent

KINGSNORTH: RNAS Airship Station   (Also known as HOO and CHATHAM)

Military users: RNAS Class G Airship Station for construction and assembly of non-rigid airships

Location: On the north shore of the River Medway, 2.5nm N of Gillingham

Period of operation: Military 1914 to 1920?

Site area: 570 acres         2346 x 1554

NOTES: KINGSNORTH was apparently the first RNAS Airship Station. The site was dominated by a huge power station for many years, now demolished, and alongside is a typically English industrial estate. Alan Faupel informs me that one of the old hangars now forms part of the BAe Systems factory at ROCHESTER airfield. But not, presumably in its original form?

FLYING CIRCUS VENUE?
Alan Cobham’s 1934 Tour of the UK visited KINGSNORTH on the 24th August. But, did they use this site?

See seperate entry for the KINGSNORTH WW2 Advanced Landing Ground which was near Ashford.
