Kinmel Bay

KINMEL BAY: Private airfield

Operated by:  Major Edward G Clark

G-EBYW as operated by Aviation Tours in 1932
G-EBYW as operated by Aviation Tours in 1932

Note: It appears that the Avro 504K G-EBYW was first registered to Surrey Flying Services in June 1928. It was then operated by Aviation Tours until Mr Clark purchased it and based it at KINMEL BAY from June 1934 until March 1938. Which raises several questions. For example: Was the aeroplane by then in too poor a condition to be used for another summer season of 'joy riding' operations?

Seems there might be a story here? Can anybody kindly offer advice? Perhaps of interest is that Mr Clark had his address given as Enfield in Middlesex, London).

The matter of his name, Clark or Clerk (?), is because the registration details of that time were hand-written, and today can be quite hard to interpret. Now confirmed as Clark.

Location: 2nm WSW of Rhyl

Period of operation:  June 1934 to March 1938 only?

NOTES: Records show Mr Clark operated the Avro 504K G-EBYW from Kinmel Bay. And also, the Avro 504K G-ABWK, (ex E9353), until this was sold abroad in December 1935.

The map provided is only a rough idea of the general location of KINMEL BAY. If anybody can provide a more exact location this will be much appreciated.
