Kirtlington

Note: This map shows the position of SLADE FARM SLG

KIRTLINGTON: Military aerodrome    (Aka SLADE FARM?)

Military user: Heavy glider training

Location: S of the A4095 about 1.5nm N/E of Kirtlington village

Period of operation: 1943 to 1945?

NOTES: It appears that this site was opened up to relieve pressure on WESTON-on-the-GREEN.

It seems to me likely that this site is probably the SLADE FARM WW2 SLG airfield. The problem being that I cannot recall another example of a SLG (Satellite Landing Ground), which were storage facilities for new aircraft awaiting orders to replace those lost to squadrons, doubling as a training airfield.

Also, there are a couple of examples during WW2 of operational airfields being very close to each other. If anybody can kindly offer advice on this, it will be most welcome.
