Langstone Harbour

LANGSTONE HARBOUR:  Flying boat base?

NOTES: There are rumours that there was a flying-boat base here - but was there? It appears there were once plans to construct one, but I can find no evidence that this actually happened. Or, do you know otherwise?

It seems to me that Langstone Harbour would have been an ideal location for flying boat training exercises. Perhaps for either civil or military operations, or possibly even both. Can this be confirmed?

If so, then perhaps to the casual observer, such activity might well have given the impression that a base had been established.

ON THE OTHER HAND
If you Google 'Langstone Harbour flying boats' an astonishing amount of information is available. In effect it appears that LANGSTONE HARBOUR was being seriously considered for the Imperial Airways base, before the decision was taken to use Southampton Water and docks.
