Leek

Note: This map only shows the position of Leek town within the UK. If anybody can kindly offer advice regarding the location(s) used, this will be most welcome.

LEEK: Temporary aerodrome

Note:  Without too much doubt the same location was used:  See listing for LITTLE BIRCHALL

NOTES: The first evidence of this location being used was by Berkshire Aviation from at least the 21st to 24th December 1920.

On the 27th June 1933 Sir Alan Cobham’s No.2 Tour displayed in/near Leek as did the 1934 Tour on the 23rd April.

As pointed out many times elsewhere in this 'Guide', and improbable though it might seem today, in fact each and every venue even if only used for one day, was a properly licensed aerodrome. In the early days the venue was inspected by officials from the Air Ministry and, if required, operational limitations were imposed. Later, the trusted operators were allowed to be 'self-certifying'.
