Leeson Hall

Note: This map shows the position of Lessonhall within the UK. However, this and the LEESON HALL entry in my notes from years ago, seem to match up. Plus of course the spelling of many places often does change over the course of several decades. Even so, if anybody can kindly offer advice on this, it will be much appreciated.

LEESON HALL: Man carrying kite site       (Now known as LESSONHALL?)

Operated by:  Mr Christopher Henry Metcalf Alderson

Location: 2nm NW of Wigton

Period of operation: 1910

NOTES: Mr Alderson was the proprietor of the Farnborough Aviation Works in KENT at that time, apparently on holiday in CUMBERLAND. It seems hard to comprehend today but in those days any safe and reliable method of flying a person to considerable heights had much to recommend it. I suppose tt seems likely his ‘man’carrying kite was purchased, or at least obtained, from Samuel F Cody?
