LENNOXLOVE: Temporary aerodrome later military Satellite Landing Ground (Aka LENNOXLOVE ACREDALES)

WW2: 27 SLG    (Admin. from RAF 18 MU DUMFRIES or so it seems)

 

Location: Acredales, Gifford Road, SSW of Haddington

Period of operation: 16th September 1932 WW2: April 1941 to August 1945

 

Runway: Pre WW2: 09/27  (Probably 800 grass?)      WW2: 09/27   1300   grass


 

NOTES: 141th venue for Cobham’s Tour.

 

During WW2 Westland Whirlwinds were put in store here as well as Vickers Wellingtons and possibly Handley Page Halifaxs. Later, used as an aircraft disposal site and the above types plus Westland Welkins arrived to be scrapped. In 1943 it is reported that 41 aircraft were on site and by 1944 this rose to 100 plus.
