Long Reach

LONG REACH: Military aerodrome

Military user: RFC

Location: Close to the river Thames, near to JOYCE GREEN?

Period of operation: 1914 to ?

NOTES: It seems that two of the first batches of Vickers FB.5 Gunbus types built at Crayford were initially sent to JOYCE GREEN before being entered into RFC service at the nearby RFC station at LONG REACH.

I might well be mistaken of course, but it seems to me that the Vickers airfield at JOYCE GREEN, might well have been shared with a RFC facility known as LONG REACH? And, possibly, the RFC base was on the north side of the airfield?

If anybody can kindly offer advice on this, it will be most welcome.
