Lower Beeding

Note: This map only shows my estimation of where this airfield might have been. If anybody can kindly either confirmation this, or provide a more exact location, this advice will be most welcome.

LOWER BEEDING: Military Landing Ground        (Possibly aka PLUMMERS PLAIN?)

Military users: RFC/RAF

39  (Home Defence)   Sqdn      (B.E.2s, B.E.12s & Bristol Fighters)

78   (Home Defence)  Sqdn     (B.E.2s, B.E.12s, Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutters & Sopwith Camels)

Location: In/near Lower Beeding where the B2101 joins the A281, roughly 3nm SE of Horsham centre

Period of operation: 1917 to 1919

Site area: 69 acres      805 x 485

NOTES: Used as both a day and night Landing Ground.

Both of the squadrons listed were, more or less, in the process of being re-equipped when this airfield opened and therefore it is quite possible that their B.E.2s and B.E.12s weren't seen here.
