Lulworth

Note: This map only gives a rough location within the UK. If anybody can kindly offer a more precise position, this advice will be most welcome.

LULWORTH: Gliding site

Operated by: Dorset Gliding Club

Location: According to the DGC web site, “From a cliff top West of Lulworth” which today is not too much help as we have two villages, West Lulworth and East Lulworth, plus Lulworth Camp

Period of operation: Early to late 1930s

NOTES: It appears the demonstrations by the German pilots at MAIDEN NEWTON in 1929 were very successful as the club purchased and operated German gliders, plus a couple of ‘Wrens’ in the late 1930s. The club was disbanded at the outbreak of War in 1939 and the gliders stored in a local garage, later to be requisitioned for training duties.

See also ASKERWELL for a rather notable gliding event.
