Location: Roughly 3nm SE of Devizes town centre, and N or NW of the A342. S of Etchilhampton and N of Lydeway villages.
Period of operation: From 2001
Runway: 09/27 810 grass
Note: It appears the original 09/27 runway was 850 metres long
NOTES: This airstrip is being operated in a very pro-active way, unlike so many which think they are being secretive. It is a fact of life that you cannot operate a secret airstrip - they really do mostly show up very well when viewed from the air. Much more information can be obtained by using Google Earth etc.
What I really like seeing is, as illustrated in the pictures above, just how quickly a fully developed airstrip can be accomplished from a just a strip in 2002 with no hangar to what we see today - it is most heartening given so much bad news in recent years - with old established airfields failing and even closing forever.
As always in this 'Guide', if anybody can offer advice, this will be most welcome.
