Note:  The 'site' view was obtained from Google Earth ©. The local area view is from my Google Earth © derived database.

Location:  Just S of the A35, and just WSW of Lytchett Minster village

Period of operation:  From the 7th April 1943 to about the 16th

NOTES:  The story is that on a delivery flight from Marrakesh in Morocco, north Africa, the Boeing B-17F, (serial 42-29651, named 'Stella'), ran out of fuel soon after crossing the Channel and made a forced landing on North Holton Farm on the 7th April 1943. Although lightly damaged it was decided, after changing all four engines, to fly it out.

To this end the 347th Engineer Unit arrived to create a suitable runway, which was achieved in nine days. The crew were booked into the The Bakers Arms which is nearby. After which 'Stella' was safely flown out.
