Lytham Sands

Note:  This map only shows my guess as to where this site may have been. If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be most welcome.

LYTHAM SANDS: Civil flying site, possibly beach site?

Period of operation: Early 1920s only?

NOTES: Apart from a couple of obscure mentions to LYTHAM SANDS the only ‘concrete’ proof I have found so far is of flight trials of the English Electric Wren motorglider taking place here in 1923.

However, surely this area would have a prime site for joy-ride operations? This said the site is quite close to Blackpool beach and indeed the address given on a 1932 'Flying Circus' tour for this vicinity on the 2nd September was “Squires Gate Aerodrome, St ANNES. St Annes being immediately N of Lytham St Annes.

V interesting! I can believe it as the estuary sands can go out for miles Note Squires Gate is Blackpool airport to the north which is partially in St. Anne’s.
