NOTES: According to the clubs web-site a RAF Hercules landed here in 2005, or thereabouts and a picture is shown. However, it seems an Hercules returned to land here at night, with no lights! I think the history given on their web-site is both fascinating and quite typical of so many gliding clubs in the UK. It gives a graphic illustration of how they moved time and time again, battling against considerable odds to pursue their passion for gliding.

The club has its roots in the Perkins Engines Gliding Club formed in 1955. The history of the gliding club involves flying from sites mainly in NORTHAMPTONSHIRE; POLEBROOK (1955 to 1958), WESTWOOD (1959 to 1963), and SPANHOE (1964 to 1967). CROWLAND in LINCOLNSHIRE (1968 to 1977), then WITHAM on the HILL also in LINCOLNSHIRE (1977 to 1980), before moving to MIDDLETON (1981 to 1989), and from LYVEDEN since 1990.

They can also claim in the clubs history, surely without any doubt, the most moved about hangar.
