Macmerry
MACMERRY: Originally it appears a WW1 airfield, later from 1935 a civil aerodrome and later still a military aerodrome in WW2
(Aka TRANENT)
Note: All four of these items were kindly provided by Mr Michael T Holder
The first and third articles was published in The Scotsman on the 5th March 1935. The picture plus text in the second item was published in The Bystander on the 29th January 1935.
The local area map shows the proximity, just 6 miles south-west of RAF GULLANE, renamed RAF DREM in 1939.

NOTES: MACMERRY it seems was the aerodrome used by the Edinburgh Flying Club from late 1934 or early 1935. In 1936 a joint arrangement was arrived at with the Scottish Flying Club based at RENFREW which included full use of club facilities and hire of aircraft at normal club rates. I do wonder why this excellent idea hasn’t been carried on and extended further in more recent times?
In June 2020 Mike Charlton kindly contacted me to say that in the autumn of 1937 North East Airlines would call in here, on demand, on their CROYDON - DONCASTER - NEWCASTLE - PERTH - ABERDEEN service. He thinks they were operating an Airspeed Envoy?
