Maidensgrove

MAIDENSGROVE:  Gliding forced landing site

Location: Just N of Maidensgrove village, about 4.5nm NW of Henley-on-Thames town centre

Period of operation: Since the 1970s perhaps?

NOTES: Probably less likely to be used today, with the many more modern high-performance gliders available, this public common land has been used over the years. Mostly I would think by gliders based at BOOKER / WYCOMBE AIR PARK when occasionally conditions can quite quickly arise when there is no lift available, and a forced landing becomes inevitable.

Suitable sites in this region are few and far between, and, being common land permission to retrieve a glider is not required - as it would be from a farmers field for example. The glider then has to disassembled and transported away by road.
