Manor House Farm

Note:  This map gives the location of Manor Park Farm. Would it be correct to assume this is the same site? The large 'green' area seems to suggest it could well be. If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be most welcome.

MANOR HOUSE FARM: Temporary aerodrome

Operated by: Alan Cobham’s 1933 No.1 Tour of the UK

Location: In or near Timperley 1nm ENE of Altringham town centre

Period of operation: 28th July 1933

NOTES: It is probably not much recognised today that these temporary flying sites used by the 'flying circus' operators, were officially licensed 'airfields'. Even if used for just one day. Hardly surprising though considering the amount of aerial activity and the size of the crowds that gathered.

In the early days a couple of men from the Ministry would arrive in advance to survey the field, often imposing various restrictions. Later, these sites mostly became self-licensing by the operator who informed the Ministry with relevent details.
