Location: In/near Marchington, 3nm SE of Uttoxeter

Period of operation: 1980s/1990s only?

The gliding club operated from a grass runway close to where Dovegate prison is located now. I'm an expat living in Canada. I have my PPL and decided to go out there after seeing the gliders flying. After some chat they offered me a ride in the glider. I paid 5 pounds for the tow plane. Can't remember what kind of tow plane. The guy in the back allowed me to fly once airborn. That was different. Lots of rudder input required.

I was a member of Marchington Gliding Club from 1985 until 1997. They moved from the original site just outside Marchington village to Tatenhill airfield in 1992 (?). In 1998 the club moved again to a large field about 1 mile west of Needwood village. As of 2016 the club ceased operating from this location. I am not aware of where the club is located now.
