MATTISHALL: Military aerodrome

Military users: RFC/RAF  (Royal Flying Corps / Royal Air Force)

Initially a Home Defence Night Landing Ground in 1916 but in the same year elevated to Flight Station status

51 [Home Defence) Sqdn    (Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2 & B.E.12. Later Avro 504K)
 

Location: E of Mattishall village,  about 1.5nm S of the A47, Roughly 3.5nm ESE of Dereham

Period of operation: 1916 to 1919
 

Site area: 861 acres      549 x 457


NOTES:  It appears the Avro 504Ks were used for night flying instruction.
