Note: Pictures by the author.

Operated by: 2001: Mr & Mrs Haigh

Location: Just SW of Maypole village, 2.5 to 3nm SSE of Herne Bay, 3nm NE of Canterbury

Period of operation: 1970s to -

Runway:  1990:  01/19   475   grass

                 2001:  01/19   550x18   grass    (Some reports state -  02/20)

                2013:   01/19   700   grass

                2019:   01/19   715   grass

Note: Info in 2012 stated that ‘clearways’ were available at both runway ends giving 700 m, but not useable in winter months

NOTES: In the mid 1970s it seems three aircraft were based here; Morane Saulnier M.S.892A/150 Rallye Commodore G-AVPK, Jodel DR.1050 Ambassadeur G-AYLL and the Nord NC.858S G-BDXX - three classic French designs.

It should I suppose be important to mention that it was here that I first met Lee Merritt when engaged on the first of three aircraft moves he required me to do. Little did I know then that he would prove to be the person to solve all my problems looking for a web-site designer - and the result is what you are looking at!

MYSTERY PICTURE

What is this?
What is this?

Note:  In the 2019 picture above this area appears. Having looked at many dozens of model flying sites across the UK, this certainly looks a possibility? Can anybody kindly offer advice?

THE FINAL CLOSURE?
In December 2020 I learnt that MAYPOLE will close forever in January 2021. All aircraft owners being given only a month or so at best to reposition their aircraft. It seems hard to believe that some people can be so thoroughly nasty. Having to do this in the middle of the worse pandemic to affect the UK since the 'Spanish' influenza pandemic after WW1, and in the winter, looks like a deliberate act of vandalism to say the least.
