Merrow

Note: Some time ago I made this comment; "This map only shows the position of Merrow within the UK. So far attempts to locate the RLG have failed. If anybody can kindly offer advice this will be much appreciated."

In January 2018 I was kindly contacted by Terry Clark who recommended that I look at;  www.guildford-dragon-com/2013/06/22-guildford-wartime-raf-landing-ground/
Note: When I clicked on this link it failed to work. However, when I typed it out in full on Google it came up perfectly. Good luck!

Doing this is highly recommended. It has a map, lots of information and stories. Also, my Google map has now been amended - it was originally way out.

MERROW: Military Relief Landing Ground     (Aka BURWOOD FARM)

Military user: RAF Training Command

18 EFTS  [Elementary Flying Training School]   (DH82A Tiger Moths)

Note: RLG for 18 EFTS at FAIROAKS

Location: About 1.5nm E of Guildford town centre

Period of operation: WW2 only?

NOTES: I also made the comment that this site was; "Apparently used for at least one 'Flying Circus' display in the 1930s." Once again I was incorrect - see NEWLANDS CORNER.

During WW2 it appears some, (it now appears three),  RAF Taylorcraft Austers also used the site, presumably on communications duties? The details are rather vague, but probably they were here in 1943 and/or 1944.
