Merstham

Note: This map gives only a rough idea of the location. If anybody should happen to know the precise location, this info will be most welcome.

MERSTHAM: Forced landing site

Location: About a mile or so NNE of Redhill

NOTES: From C C Turners ‘Old Flying Days’ it seems, “Mr Sippe then started flying for the Hanriot firm, (he’d been with A V Roe earlier in 1912 - my notes), and took part in the first Aerial Derby on a 50hp Gnome-Hanriot, but was forced to land at Merstham owing to engine trouble. After that he went to France to test a100hp Hanriot for the Gordon Bennett, and was one of the first British pilots to handle a high-speed racing machine.”
