Metal Bridge Inn

           METAL BRIDGE INN: Private helipad

Location: In the 1998 ‘Helicopter Sitefinder’ by John B Frost, which I have found of great assistance generally speaking. He says the Metal Bridge Inn is in/near Blockford near Carlisle, but it is actually Blackford. The Metal Bridge was a major waypoint on the old A6, before the M6 motorway was opened. It is about 5nm NNW to the NW of Carlisle town centre and 2 nm SE of Gretna Green. I can still, just about, recall driving over the Metal Bridge some forty years ago.

Landing area: 1998, land in car park to side of Inn

NOTES: Odd thing this. When starting out on this project I thought my main attributes would be my life-long love of flying and being a pilot very intent on exploring by landing at all sorts of airstrips and airfields; from farm strips to major international airports. The fact is though, having also spent some thirty plus years as an owner driver, it has been this experience that has often proved most useful in compiling, researching and even illustrating this Guide.
