MILFORD HAVEN: Seaplane trials

Milford Haven in 1989
Milford Haven in 1989

NOTES: After travelling around Europe demonstrating Bristol monoplanes, in January the following year (1912) Captain Pixton, along with Mr (later Wing-Commander) H R Busteed went to Madrid with a 70hp Gnome-Bristol biplane and a 50hp Gnome-Bristol monoplane, and flew before the King of Spain. At the end of February he went for five weeks to MILFORD HAVEN to experiment with a Bristol seaplane. From there he went to Doeberitz near Berlin with a Bristol monoplane and after that to France to test another at St Cyr.

MILFORD HAVEN: Balloon Station

Military users: RNAS/RAF Kite Balloon Station

Period of operation: 1917 to 1919

Site area: 6 acres

MILFORD HAVEN: Military seaplane base?

NOTES: HQ for 77 Wing, No.14 (Marine Operations) Group formed from RNAS units into the RAF which was formed on the 1st April 1918. Was this the same location as LAWRENNY FERRY used in WW2? If so it does seem to suggest aircraft were operating here, at least at the end of WW1. These locations are not to be confused with PEMBROKE DOCK which is situated at the eastern end of Milford Haven.
