NOTES: It was the normal practice for Sir Alan Cobham, upon arriving, to take local dignitaries for a flight, or flights, (depending on the number attending), around their local area. Then, after a slap-up lunch, he would take sponsored school children up, followed by joy-rides for the locals. In this case, which I think is the only time this happened on his Tour, he cut the programme short as the field was so rough he feared it might damage his undercarriage.
This was the 81st venue. He originally planned to visit 107 venues, but in the end managed 95, spread from May to October. Even so, a quite magnificent achievement. Just how many aerodromes were commissioned as a direct result of this Campaign is impossible to say, but, many more did come about. Indeed, the result being the emergence in the 1930s of many regional airline services. In fact, a much better network than we have today.
