Note:  These three pictures were obtained from Google Earth ©, the third being from my Google Earth © derived database.

Operated by:  Mr John Arthur Village

Location:  Near to Barlow and Moorhall villages, roughly 4.5nm NW of Chesterfield town centre and about 8nm SSW of Sheffield city centre

Period of operation:  Not known (?) but perhaps from around 2011? to -

Runway:  Not defined as such but with a maximum run of 200 metres orientated at 01/19

NOTES:  We have Mr Graham Frost, a great friend of this 'Guide' to thank for drawing our interest to this location, although he was quite dubious about it actually existing due to little if any positive visual proof.

There is certainly quite a bit of guesswork involved, but, it looks to me that the location shown in the pictures above could well be being used as an airstrip. The owner of the site, Mr John Village, built a Vans RV-6 and registered it as G-OJVA in 1996. Looking back at Google Earth images it is clear that this site was being developed from 2005 and possibly being used as an airstrip from 2011?

The main point being that the Vans RV-6, in common with other Vans types, have remarkable short field capabilities, despite not being proper STOL types. They need nice flat fields to operate from. The maximum run for landing and taking off for a RV-6, at maximum weight, is given as being in the region of 160 metres, so clearly with just the pilot on board, (let alone a reduced fuel load), these figures can be much reduced. Therefore, it is perfectly feasible, even given a 25% error factor as recommended, for a RV-6 to be operated from here.

As always in this 'Guide', if anybody can kindly offer advice and information, this will be most welcome.
