Morestead Farm

MORESTEAD FARM: Private airstrip     (Aka   MORESTEAD DOWN)

Aerial view 2018
Aerial view 2018

Note:  This pictures was obtained from Google Earth ©

Location: In/near Morestead, S of A272, E of the M3, about 3nm SE of Winchester

Period of operation: Listed as active from the late 1960s until the mid 1970s

Runway:  Probably?     16/34   730   grass

NOTES:  In May 2020 I was kindly contacted by Mr Graham Frost and he had visited this airstrip in both 1972 and about 1975.

What strikes me of interest is that he recorded the Auster J1N G-AHAT here in 1972. This was registered to the Morestead Down Flying Group from April 1963 to April 1970. Then to an owner who based it at FAIROAKS. Probably making a friendly visit? In 1975 Graham saw a Cessna 337 here.

Graham also mentions the Auster 5 (J1S) G-AMKU being based here, and that was registered to Southdown Flying Group from October 1964 to January 1993.

If anybody can also kindly offer advice, this will be most welcome.
