Morton Palms

MORTON PALMS: Temporary aerodrome    (Aka MORETON PALMS FARM)

Operated by: Aviation Tours

Location: Yarm Road, Darlington

Period of operation: 18th to 27th May 1931

NOTES:
There is not much known, or so it seems, about this Tour. Apparently starting in April and ending in late September they visited venues from Penzance in Cornwall to Inverness in Scotland. If anybody can kindly offer advice and information, this will be most welcome.

It is not generally known that the temporary sites used by the 'Flying Circus' tour operators were in fact officially licensed 'aerodromes' and in the early days usually just two men from the Ministry would arrive in advance to survey and approve the site. And, quite often apply operating restrictions of various kinds. Later on the better operations certainly, were allowed to be 'self certifying'.

The map gives only a general location of this site and if somebody could be kind enough to pinpoint it, this will be much appreciated.
