Operated by: 1980s to - : Wild Geese Sky-Diving Centre
Location: 4nm E of Garvagh, roughly 4.5nm NW of Kilrea
Period of operation: From the early 2000s certainly and still operating
Note: This map is reproduced with the kind permission of Pooleys Flight Equipment Ltd. Copyright Robert Pooley 2014.
Runway: 2000: 07/25 470x12 hard
*2001: 07/25 460x10 grass
2017: 07/25 460 hard
NOTES: *I have added the details found in a pilots flight guide in 2001, which I believe is totally incorrect (?). I very much doubt the hard runway suddenly became grass - and then hard again! But, this could happen if the hard runway was being resurfaced?
The main reason I have used maps from Pooleys Flight Equipment is simply because I have found that this company invariably produces the most accurate information.
Often the venue for Parachuting Competitions.
SOME ADDITIONAL INFO
In July 2022 I was kindly contacted by Mr Colin Jones who has had a serious delve on our behalf. He tells us that the Cessna 182L Skylane, G-AWJA, was registered to the Wild Geese School of Adventure Flying 09.11.84 and stored here after its CofA expired 21.04.85. Final fate unknown but registration cancelled as destroyed 29.11.88.
Also based here was the Grumman AA-5, G-BBRZ from around June 1987, and stored here after its CofA lapsed 30.04.09. Registration cancelled 10.02.05 but restored 19.01.07. Apparently still flying in 2022.
Another resident with the Wild Geese Skydiving Centre since 03.05.96 is the Cessna U206G Stationair - GBMOF - (ex N7427N).
The Cessna TU206G Turbo Stationair G-CCRC (ex 9A-DLC) seems to have been with Wild Geese Skydiving Centre from 24.02.04 until 18.06.21 although its CofA expired 24.09.11. It was sold in 2021 and arrived at BAGBY.
Out of interest perhaps (?), the 9A registration is Croatia. I have flown in Croatia in the Cessna 172 9A-DNI from Pula on the 29th December 2005. I did like to get around before I retired.
Finally, but certainly not least, but seeming to be registered to a private owner, is the Pilatus PC-6/B2-H4 Turbo Porter G-CECI (exN2TS), here from 03.03.06 until being sold to Portugal 13.01.17. Hard to imagine that such an ideal parachuting aircraft wasn't being used by arrangement with Wild Geese?
