Newcastle

Note:  This map only gives the position of Newcastle within the UK. If anybody can kindly offer advice and information, this will be much appreciated.

NEWCASTLE: Early experimental flying site

Operated by: J B Ferguson?

Location: In/near Newcastle, County Down

Period of operation: July & August 1910

NOTES: It appears J B Ferguson, (of later farm tractor design fame), moved his aeroplane to Newcastle, County Down on the 15th July 1910. It would seem, just possibly (?) some sort of contest was taking place with other pioneers and their machines? Be that as it may he certainly won the £100 prize for being the first pilot in Ireland to fly for three miles, this record breaking flight taking place on the 8th August. The aircraft was then returned to MAGILLIGAN STRAND.
