Location:  Just E of the A169, just SE of Saltergate village, about 2nm SSW of RAF FYLINGDALES, 10nm SSW of Whitby town centre and 12nm WNW of Scarborough town centre

Period of operation:  1990s (?) to -

Runways:  18/36   550   grass           12/30   485   grass

Note:  From very roughly 2009 to 2015 the 12/30 runway was extended to 780 metres

NOTES:  Although far from unique, a look at the pictures above shows that the very nature, (as well as the length), of the 12/30 runway has changed quite a bit over the last twenty years. (Written in 2020).  Is there a reason?

The reason for describing this site as a "private airfield" is quite straightforward. For me an airstrip is just that - airstrip singular. Therefore, any site with two or more runways becomes an airfield.

As always in this 'Guide', if anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be most welcome.
