NEWLYN: Military Seaplane Station (also known as PENZANCE)

Military users: RNAS/RAF   (Royal Naval Air Service / Royal Air Force)

235 Sqdn   (Short 184s)

Note: It is reported that Sopwith Baby types were also flown here. But, if correct, by whom?
 

Location: Newlyn is now SW of and absorbed by Penzance. In WW1 the site was listed as being 2 miles from Penzance railway station

Period of operation: 1917 to 1919
 

Shore site area: 5 acres


 

 

NEWLYN EAST: Temporary aerodrome?

NOTES: On the 10th May 1933 Sir Alan Cobham’s No.2 Tour displayed in/near Newlyn. Can anybody kindly provide a location for this venue?
