North Queensferry

NORTH QUEENSFERRY: Balloon Station

Military users: RNAS/RAF Kite Balloon Station

Location: Just E of the N end of the Forth Bridge

Period of operation: 1917 to 1919

Site area:  5 acres

NOTES: Perhaps it should be pointed out that 'Kite Balloons' were manned balloons and generally used for reconnaissance although some were armed, as I presume these were, for defensive purposes against enemy attacks of towns, cities and of course major military installations.

The position indicated on the map is simply for rough guidance. If anybody knows the exact location I would very much appreciate the advice.
