NORTHAMPTON: Temporary aerodrome
In 1929 Sir Alan Cobham's Municipal Aerodrome Campaign visited Northampton. The aircraft he used was the de Havilland DH61 Giant Moth G-AAEV, named 'Youth Of Britain'.
It was the 6th venue and the Tour started in May and ended in October with one hundred and seven towns and cities being visited. Mostly in England, but with two venues in Wales and eight in Scotland. It is of course tempting to imagine their venue might have been OBELISK FARM or TICKLERS MIDSUMMER MEADOW - but was it?
If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be much appreciated.
NORTHAMPTON: Private helipad
Operated by: Cosworth Engineering Ltd
NOTES: As mentioned elsewhere several times private helipads are now ten a penny and form a significant contribution to UK aviation history but in the mid 1970s they were still pretty rare, hence this inclusion where it seems the Brantly B.2B G-AVIP was based.
Now then, being a tad anoraky and having no interest in cars whatsoever, perhaps this Cosworth Engineering company is the famous Cosworth company who ‘soup up’ cars? So presumably somebody can now tell me where this helipad was?
