NORTHIAM: Microlight airstrip
Note: All four of these pictures were obtained from Google Earth ©
Location: Roughly 1nm NE of Northiam village centre
Runway: 02/20 370x18 grass
Note: The 2003 picture above shows the original runway was: 02/20 200 grass
Period of operation: Late 1990s (?) to -
NOTES: The initial info came from the AAIB report EW/G2014/06/25 and a search on Google Earth soon revealed this site. On the hangar are the letters WFC so presumably the “FC” stands for Flying Club. The letters “ULM” are also on the same hangar roof.
It appears the Gemini Flash II, G-MTGA, might well have been based here? Or just visiting?
Is it possible that this location was once known as GATE COURT? The Piper PA-28-180 Cherokee G-ASKT is said to have been based there from 28.10.69 until 07.11.75. The pictures certainly appear to show that the runway may well have been rather longer - around 470m - so quite enough for a 180hp Cherokee especially when lightly laden.
If anybody can kindly offer advice and information, this will be much appreciated.

Reply from Dick Flute:
Hi Edouard, Thank you for the enquiry but this 'Guide' is not for pilots to use for flight planning purposes. Also, as it has been some time since I stopped flying, my knowledge of the latest procedures is well out of date. This said, having flown across the Channel many times, please be very careful regarding the weather situation. It can change quickly and especially at this time of years is often unpredictable. Please take care to find out about Customs procedures. These can be arranged in advance, but, because of weather vagaries especially, I invariable planned to land at an approved Customs airfield. In this case I think Lydd is best suited for a visit to Northiam. Happy landings, Dick
