OLDHAM see also CHADDERTON

OLDHAM: Balloon ascent venue?

NOTES: Somewhere in my research I found an obscure reference to a balloon event taking place in Oldham.

To date, (2016), I can find nothing to substantiate this - unless you know better?

However, I have discovered that Mr Charles Green, the then famous aeronaut, made an ascent from Bolton on the 11th September 1826 and landed in Chadderton which of course is near to and WNW of Oldham.

OLDHAM: Military airfield

Military users: US Army Air Force liaison

Period of operation: 1943/5 only?
