Queen Alexandra Hospital
QUEEN ALEXANDRA HOSPITAL: Private helipads
Note: All six of these pictures were obtained from Google Earth ©
Location: Just N of Harlow town centre
Period of operation: New helipad: 2006 to -
NOTES: At my age I will readily admit to being easily quandrified, not least by hand-held smart-phones.
But, as the first picture shows, the original helipad was marked out on grass. However, was that a later helipad with a hard-standing just to the NE? The second picture shows this - and if it wasn't - what exactly was it?
It seems astonishing that it has mainly been only since the turn of the 21st century that air ambulance facilities at most hospitals have become to be taken seriously as a major life-saving facility. But of course, these come at quite a high cost. So perhaps understandable it has taken so long.
