Note:  Both of these pictures were obtained from Google Earth ©, and are purely a guess of where the actual site really was.

Operated by:  Mr Lionel G Atherton

Location:  Probably WSW of Ranmore Common, about 3.5nm WNW of Dorking town centre

Period of operation:  Almost certainly from 1952 to 1956?

NOTES:  The aim of this 'Guide' has always been to record as many U.K. flying sites as possible. Clearly an impossible task, but at least a start has been made.

The clue to this site came from a mention by Peter Campbell in his book, (one of a triology), More Tails Of The Fifties, when he records the Piper J4A Cub Coupé G-AFSZ visiting SHOREHAM. And booking in from RANMORE COMMON.

A bit of delving around reveals that Mr Lionel G Atherton owned G-AFSZ, and it was registered to him from 08.05.52 to 12.02.56, his address being Sun Haven, Ranmore Common. Needless to say, trying to identify the exact site he operated G-AFSZ from is probably impossible? Or indeed, did he operate other aircraft here either before or after?

As always in this 'Guide', if anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be much appreciated.
