RETFORD: Temporary aerodrome?

NOTES: On the 22nd June 1933 Sir Alan Cobham’s No.2 Tour displayed in/near RETFORD. Does anybody now know the location for this venue? Was it perhaps the site later taken up in WW2?

The same question applies when, on the 30th May Cobham’s 1934 Tour displayed in/near RETFORD and indeed on the 31st May 1935 RETFORD was also the venue.

It was very often the case that the 'Flying Circus' operaters decided not to use established aerodromes, preferring to run their own show independently. Often these sites, which incidentally were licensed airfields even if only used for one day, were quite close to established aerodromes and indeed I found one such which was literally across the road from an established aerodrome.
